House in Romeira, Portugal
The House in Romeira wants to model its own place on the outskirts of Romeira, in Santarém. It builds the existential, humanized and concrete place, because it is inhabited, structured with meaning and purpose.
It is organized by enhancing visual alignments over the territory, in an urban and landscape perspective, simultaneously assuming itself as a possible visual reference.
Its access is not direct and immediate from the public road, but hidden. Going around the small hill where the house sits, you go up to the side of a small patch of holm oaks that has been fully preserved. This creates a purposeful distance that provides privacy to everyday use and the obligation to make a journey of approximation. Allows visual apprehension of the building before reaching the entry point.
The aggregation of multiple spaces contained in volumes is designed. Each with its own identity and programmatic function, defined by its different topological attributes.
The idea of fragmentation of the whole is worked on in a sum of autonomous or interconnected spaces, integrating contemporary aesthetic and constructive aspects.
The volume obtained seems to be diminished apparently, in the dematerialization of the total mass of the building in different elements of smaller volume.
The heritage of some formal themes inspired by the Portuguese rural landscape is valued, referring particularly to buildings known as “montes”, erected in dominant places over the landscape and formed by sets of informally positioned volumes.

A casa deseja modelar o próprio lugar na periferia da Romeira, em Santarém.
Constrói o lugar existencial, humanizado e concreto, porque habitado, estruturado com significado e propósito. Organiza-se potenciando alinhamentos visuais sobre o território, numa perspectiva urbana e paisagística, assumindo-se simultaneamente como eventual referência visual.
O seu acesso não é direto e imediato a partir da via pública, mas oculto. Circundando a pequena colina onde a casa assenta, sobe até ao lado de uma pequena mancha de azinheiras que se preserva integralmente. Cria-se assim um distanciamento propositado que aporta privacidade ao uso quotidiano e a obrigatoriedade de fazer um percurso de aproximação. Permite apreender visualmente o edifício antes de chegar ao ponto de entrada.
Desenha-se a agregação de múltiplos espaços contidos em volumes. Cada um com a sua própria identidade e função programática, definidos pelos seus diferentes atributos topológicos.
Trabalha-se a ideia de fragmentação do conjunto numa soma de espaços autónomos ou interligados, integradores de aspectos estéticos e construtivos contemporâneos.
A volumetria obtida como que se diminui aparentemente, na desmaterialização da massa total do edifício em diferentes elementos de volumetria menor.
Valoriza-se a herança de alguns temas formais de inspiração na paisagem rural portuguesa, remetendo particularmente aos edificados conhecidos como “montes”, erigidos em sítios dominantes sobre a paisagem e formados por conjuntos de volumes informalmente posicionados.
