New York-based architect Andre Kikoski has won the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurant Design for his firm’s design of The Wright in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Kikoski, an emerging young talent, launched his firm only seven years ago.
schmidt hammer lassen architects has won the competition to design a 54,000m2 concert, congress and hotel complex in Malmö, Sweden. The competition, where Snøhetta, Baumschlager Eberle and Daniel Libeskind participated, also included the development of additionally 35,000m2 for housing and commercial use.
With the combination of design, quality and functionality arises this new A-cero´s work: a house of 1.500m2 defined by a set of clean lines and perfect volumes.
The undergraduate residence is envisioned with the concept of “porosity.” It is a vertical slice of city, 10 stories tall and 382′ long, providing a 125 seat theater, a night café, and street level dining. The “sponge” concept transforms the building via a series of programmatic and bio-technical functions.
The project is located in the prominent green residential area of Ljubljana just on the edge of city centre. The main request was to develop 100 quality housing units with terraces surrounded by green.
