At 259 hectares, Langley Vale Wood is the largest of The Woodland Trust’s four First World War centenary woods. The site, which was used for training during the war, has been transformed in the last decade into a nature haven and a living memorial for those who sacrificed so much.

Adam Knibb Architects were commissioned to design a modern extension for an early 20th-century house. The new Surrey House extension envelopes the eastern and southern facades, with the aim of optimizing the existing layout and creating additional spaces that the original house lacked.

Oliver Leech Architects has given Hipped House, a detached inter-war house in Epsom a new sense of identity through the addition of a hipped-roof two-storey rear extension that reveals a depth of clean, intricate detailing throughout. The clients, a couple with two young children, briefed the architects to redesign the home to include more spacious and open living areas in which they could spend quality time together.

Fletcher Crane Architects were engaged by Claremont Fan Court School to design and deliver a new building to provide ten subject-specific classrooms set over two levels, on its sensitive Grade I listed historic estate. The route into the site follows a fall in the ground level, and the new building contrasts this with a strong horizontal roof line.

The designs for a new global research hub in Surrey have won unanimous approval from the local planning authority. UCB Windlesham will be home to the UK R&D hub of the Belgian based life sciences company that specialises in discovery and development of treatments for severe diseases in immunology and neurology.
